\t<\/span>In my capacity as representative of the European Union, I have the honour to transmit to you herewith a declaration of the European Union on recent terrorist violence in Israel, issued on 20 October 1994.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you could have the text of this letter and its annex circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 38.<\/p><\/div>\n

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENCY ON BEHALF OF THE EUROPEAN UNION ON<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

RECENT TERRORIST VIOLENCE IN ISRAEL DATED 20 OCTOBER 1994<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The European Union expresses its profound horror and outrage at the bomb attack in the centre of Tel Aviv on 19 October 1994, for which the Union understands Hamas has claimed responsibility.  The European Union is appalled at the loss of life and injuries among bus passengers and passers-by.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The European Union strongly condemns all acts of violence.  But this attack and other recent violence committed by terrorists in the name of Hamas, including the kidnap and murder of Corporal Nachshon Wachsman and the gun attack in West Jerusalem on 9 October resulting in a number of deaths and injuries, demonstrate that their principal aim is the destruction of the peace process. The European Union extends its condolences to the families of all the recent victims of such violence.  The perpetrators of all these atrocities must be brought to justice.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The European Union is convinced that those who seek to destroy the peace process must not be allowed to succeed.  The best way of ensuring this is through the reinforcement of the collective determination of the regional parties and the international community to make the process a success.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The four acceding States associate themselves with this statement.<\/p><\/div>\n
