Identical letters dated 20 March 2007 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

I write to inform you of the highly alarming number of terror attacks carried out by Palestinian terrorists operating in the Gaza Strip over the past two weeks.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

From Monday, 5 March 2007, until Monday, 19 March 2007, 13 rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip at Israeli communities in the south. These rocket attacks included the launching of Qassams and mortar shells, six of which detonated in Israeli territory.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

During a rocket attack on Tuesday, 6 March 2007, four civilians were lightly injured, and countless others treated for shock and trauma.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Just yesterday, Monday, 19 March 2007, an Israeli working for Israel Electric Corporation was wounded by a Palestinian terrorist sniper. He was conducting repair work at a fuel depot in Israel, north of the Karni commercial crossing.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The continuation of Palestinian terror is a grave violation of the agreed upon ceasefire between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President Mahmoud Abbas from late November. Palestinian terror threatens the viability of sustainable peace and security in our region. The Hamas government must adhere to the three conditions of the international community, and put an end to the violence and terror against Israel.<\/p><\/div>\n

I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the present letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly under agenda items 13 and 14.<\/p><\/div>\n
