49\/149.\t<\/span><\/strong>The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The General Assembly<\/u>,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Aware<\/u> that the development of friendly relations among nations, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, is among the purposes and principles of the United Nations, as defined in its Charter,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling<\/u> the International Covenants on Human Rights, 1<\/u>\/ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 2<\/u>\/ the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, 3<\/u>\/ as well as the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, adopted by the World Conference on Human Rights on 25 June 1993, 4<\/u>\/<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Taking note<\/u> of the progress made in the Middle East peace process, in particular the mutual recognition and the signing of the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements in Washington, D.C., on 13 September 1993 by the Government of the State of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, 5<\/u>\/ as well as the ensuing developments on the ground,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Affirming<\/u> the right of all States in the region to live in peace within secure and internationally recognized borders,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Reaffirms<\/u> the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Expresses the hope<\/u> that the Palestinian people may soon exercise their right to self-determination in the current peace process;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Urges<\/u> all States, specialized agencies and organizations of the United Nations system to continue to support the Palestinian people in their quest for self-determination.<\/p><\/div>\n
