11\/3.  Use of the term "settlement" in relation to Israeli colonies in occupied territories<\/u>*<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The Commission on Human Settlements<\/u>,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling<\/u> the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, i<\/u>\/ and the relevant recommendations for national action j<\/u>\/ adopted at Habitat: United Nations Conference on Human Settlements,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling also<\/u> General Assembly resolution 42\/190 of 11 December 1987 on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Taking note<\/u> of the various reports presented by the Executive Director,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Noting<\/u> the conceptual conflict between human settlements terminology and that used by Israeli settlements,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Convinced<\/u> of the colonial nature of the Israeli settlements,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recommends<\/u> to the General Assembly the adoption at its forty-third session of the following draft resolution:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"The General Assembly<\/u>,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"Noting<\/u> the definition of the concept 'human settlements' in the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, i<\/u>\/\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"Also noting<\/u> the aggressive, inhuman and colonial nature of the Israeli settlements,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"Convinced of the conceptual differences between the two terms,<\/u>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"1.\t<\/span>Decides<\/u> to use the term 'Israeli colonies in occupied territories' instead of 'Israeli settlements' in all United Nations documentation;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"2.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Secretary-General to ensure implementation of the present resolution throughout the United Nations system and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its forty-fourth session, through the Economic and Social Council."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
