\t\t<\/span>Special information programme on the question of Palestine of the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The General Assembly<\/i>,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span>Having considered<\/i><\/span> the report of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Taking note in particular<\/i> of the information contained in chapter VI of that report,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Recalling<\/i> its resolution 63\/28 of 26 November 2008,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Convinced <\/i>that the worldwide dissemination of accurate and comprehensive information and the role of civil society organizations and institutions remain of vital importance in heightening awareness of and support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and the efforts to achieve a just, lasting and peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Recalling<\/i> the mutual recognition between the Government of the State of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, the representative of the Palestinian people, as well as the existing agreements between the two sides,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling also<\/i><\/span> the Quartet road map to a permanent two-State solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,<\/span>2<\/sup><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling further<\/i><\/span> the Arab Peace Initiative adopted by the Council of the League of Arab States at its fourteenth session, held in Beirut on 27 and 28 March 2002,<\/span>3<\/sup><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling <\/i><\/span>the advisory opinion rendered on 9 July 2004 by the International Court of Justice on the <\/span>Legal Consequences of the Construction of a Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory<\/i><\/span>,<\/span>4<\/sup><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Reaffirming <\/i>that the United Nations has a permanent responsibility towards the question of Palestine until the question is resolved in all its aspects in a satisfactory manner in accordance with international legitimacy,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Expressing the hope<\/i> that the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat, in its upcoming programme for 2010-2011, will continue to examine ways to foster and encourage the contribution of media in support of the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Notes with appreciation<\/i> the action taken by the Department of Public Information in compliance with resolution 63\/28;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Considers<\/i> that the special information programme on the question of Palestine of the Department is very useful in raising the awareness of the international community concerning the question of Palestine and the situation in the Middle East and that the programme is contributing effectively to an atmosphere conducive to dialogue and supportive of the peace process;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Requests<\/i> the Department, in full cooperation and coordination with the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, to continue, with the necessary flexibility as may be required by developments affecting the question of Palestine, its special information programme for the biennium 2010-2011, in particular:\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(a)\t<\/span>To disseminate information on all the activities of the United Nations system relating to the question of Palestine and the peace process, including reports on the work carried out by the relevant United Nations organizations, as well as on the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Special Envoy vis-à-vis the peace process;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(b)\t<\/span>To continue to issue and update publications and audio-visual materials on the various aspects of the question of Palestine in all fields, including materials concerning the relevant recent developments in that regard, in particular the efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(c)\t<\/span>To expand its collection of audio-visual material on the question of Palestine, to continue the production and preservation of such material and to update, on a periodic basis, the public exhibit on the question of Palestine displayed in the General Assembly building as well as at United Nations Headquarters at Geneva and Vienna;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(d)\t<\/span>To organize and promote fact-finding news missions for journalists to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(e)\t<\/span>To organize international, regional and national seminars or encounters for journalists, aiming in particular at sensitizing public opinion to the question of Palestine and the peace process and at enhancing dialogue and understanding between Palestinians and Israelis for the promotion of a peaceful settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>(f)\t<\/span>To continue to provide assistance to the Palestinian people in the field of media development, in particular to strengthen the annual training programme for Palestinian broadcasters and journalists;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Encourages <\/i>the Department to formulate ways for the media and representatives of civil society to engage in open and positive discussions to explore means for encouraging people-to-people dialogue and promoting peace and mutual understanding in the region.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
