Addendum<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>By identical letters dated 20 February 2002 addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council (S\/2002\/182), the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations called for an urgent meeting of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>By a letter dated 20 February 2002 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2002\/184), the representative of Yemen, acting in his capacity as Chairman of the Group of Arab States for the month of February and on behalf of the States members of the League of Arab States, requested the convening of an urgent meeting of the Security Council to consider the extremely dangerous situation in the occupied Palestinian Territory including Jerusalem and take the necessary action in that regard.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4474th meeting, held on 21 February 2002 in response to those requests.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of<\/span> <\/span>Israel and Yemen, at their request, to participate in the discussion without the right to vote.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>In response to the request contained in a letter dated 21 February 2002 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2002\/186), the President, in accordance with the rules of procedure and the previous practice in that regard, invited the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to participate in the discussion.<\/p><\/div>\n
