Letter dated 23 November 1988 from the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

I have the honour to forward herewith the text of a message addressed by the President of Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. Ghulam Ishaq Khan, to Chairman Yasser Arafat, on 16 November 1988, in connection with the declaration of an independent Palestinian State.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

I should be grateful if you would have this letter and the text of the message circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 37 and 40, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Government and the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have received with great happiness the news of the declaration of an independent Palestinian State. Please accept our heartiest felicitation and good wishes on this auspicious occasion.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The declaration is an event of historic importance and constitutes a glorious milestone in the inexorable march of the people of Palestine towards their cherished goal.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Under your dynamic leadership our Palestinian brothers have demonstrated that they consider no sacrifice too great for the realization of their national aspirations. Inshaallah<\/u> their sacrifices will rot go in vain and they will emerge triumphant.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Pakistan has always supported the just cause of the Palestinian people and we rejoice with the Palestinian people at the news of the declaration.
