<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>The Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations presents his compliments to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and has the honour to enclose the text of an official declaration issued by the spokesman of the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic concerning the recent illegal expansionist measures the alien by the Israeli Government in the occupied Arab territories.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic kindly requests the Secretary-General to have the text of this official statement circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under items 30, 31 and 57 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

Official declaration issued by the spokesman of the <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Government of the Syrian Arabic Republic on 16 August 1977<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>It has become self-evident that the Zionist entity is striving to consolidate its occupation and to implement its policy of expansionism while hiding behind false masks and flimsy disguises. At the same time, the Zionist entity is attempting to thwart efforts to bring about a just peace in the area.  It took one more such step yesterday when, only a few days after the visit of the United States Secretary of State, its Prime Minister Menachem Begin announced that Israeli laws and regulations would be imposed on the population of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Government of the Syrian Arab Republic considers the latest Israeli measure to be no less than a deliberate move to legitimize the occupation and to pave that way for proclaiming the final annexation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip by the Zionist entity.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>It also sees in this measure a total disregard for peace efforts, a further defiance of the international community and of United Nations resolutions and a scornful and arrogant enforcement of the policy of fait accompli.<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Syrian Arab Republic calls upon all States and international organization throughout the world to condemn the Zionist entity for these acts of defiance, to declare their rejection of these measures and to take steps to halt such measures and put an end both to continued Israeli defiance of international law and instruments and United Nations resolutions and to Israeli attempts to obstruct efforts to bring about a just peace in the area.<\/p><\/div>\n
