  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5352nd meeting, held on 23 January 2006 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it a letter dated 26 October 2005 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2005\/673). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Terje Roed-Larsen, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 (2004). <\/p><\/div>\n

  The President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S\/PRST\/2006\/3; to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 <\/i>).<\/p><\/div>\n
