The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The General Assembly,<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Aware <\/i>that the development of friendly relations among nations, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, is among the purposes and principles of the United Nations, as defined in the Charter,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling, <\/i>in this regard, its resolution 2625 (XXV) of 24 October 1970, entitled "Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among States in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations",<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Bearing in mind <\/i><\/span>the International Covenants on Human Rights,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/span> the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,<\/span>2<\/sup><\/span> the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples<\/span>3<\/sup><\/span> and the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action adopted at the World Conference on Human Rights on 25 June 1993,<\/span>4<\/sup><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling <\/i><\/span>the Declaration on the Occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the United Nations,<\/span>5<\/sup><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling also <\/i><\/span>the United Nations Millennium Declaration,<\/span>6<\/sup><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling further <\/i><\/span>the <\/span>advisory opinion<\/a> rendered on 9 July 2004 by the International Court of Justice on the legal consequences of the construction of a wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,<\/span>7<\/sup><\/span> and noting in particular the reply of the Court, including on the right of peoples to self-determination, which is a right <\/span>erga omnes,<\/i><\/span>8<\/sup><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling <\/i><\/span>the conclusion of the Court, in its <\/span>advisory opinion<\/a> of 9 July 2004, that the construction of the wall by Israel, the occupying Power, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, along with measures previously taken, severely impedes the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,<\/span>9<\/sup><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Stressing <\/i><\/span>the urgency of achieving without delay an end to the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, based on the relevant resolutions of the United Nations, the <\/span>Madrid terms of reference<\/a>, including the principle of land for peace, the <\/span>Arab Peace Initiative<\/a>10<\/sup><\/span> and the Quartet <\/span>road map<\/a> to a permanent two-State solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,<\/span>11<\/sup><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Stressing also <\/i><\/span>the need for respect for and preservation of the territorial unity, contiguity and integrity of all of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and recalling in this regard its resolution <\/span>58\/292<\/a> of 6 May 2004,<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Recalling <\/i><\/span>its resolution <\/span>69\/165<\/a> of 18 December 2014, <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Taking note <\/i><\/span>of its resolution <\/span>67\/19<\/a> of 29 November 2012,<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Affirming <\/i>the right of all States in the region to live in peace within secure and internationally recognized borders,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Reaffirms <\/i>the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>Urges <\/i>all States and the specialized agencies and organizations of the United Nations system to continue to support and assist the Palestinian people in the early realization of their right to self-determination.<\/p><\/div>\n
