Identical letters dated 17 April 2007 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

  I write to inform you of the highly alarming number of terror attacks carried out by Palestinian terrorists operating in the Gaza Strip over the past four weeks. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

  From Monday, 19 March 2007, until yesterday morning, Monday, 16 April 2007, 28 rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip at Israeli communities in the south. These rocket attacks included the launching of Qassams and mortar shells, six of which detonated in Israeli territory. One Qassam rocket landed in the western Negev city of Sderot, causing damage and light injury to civilians. In response to the launching of 21 rockets during the week of 26 March to 2 April, Israel destroyed a number of rocket launching pads used by Palestinian terrorists. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

  The continuation of Palestinian terror gravely violates the agreed upon ceasefire between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President Mahmoud Abbas. Moreover, the relentless Palestinian terror threatens the viability of sustainable peace and security in our region. The Palestinian government, which Hamas still plays a significant role in, must adhere to the three conditions of the international community, and put an end to the violence and terror against Israel. <\/p><\/div>\n

  I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of this letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 13 and 14, and of the Security Council. <\/p><\/div>\n
