font-size:smaller\">\t\t<\/span>Addendum<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The list of items of which the Security Council is seized is contained in documents S\/2000\/40 of 15 February 2000, S\/2000\/40\/Add.1 of 21 February 2000, S\/2000\/40\/Add.5 of 28 March 2000, S\/2000\/40\/Add.8 of 14 April 2000, S\/2000\/40\/Add.9 of 19 April 2000, S\/2000\/40\/Add.15 of 23 May 2000 and S\/2000\/40\/Add.28 of 31 July 2000.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>During the week ending 7 October 2000, the Security Council took action on the following item:<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t\t<\/span>The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>By a letter dated 2 October 2000 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2000\/928), the Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, in his capacity as Chairman of the Arab Group for the month of October 2000 and on behalf of the States members of the League of Arab States, requested that the Security Council be convened in order to discuss &#8220;the Israeli aggression on the Haram Al-Sharif in occupied Holy Jerusalem and the wave of Israeli aggression against Palestinian civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem&#8221;.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>By a letter dated 2 October 2000 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2000\/929), the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, entrusted by members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Caucus, requested that the Security Council convene an urgent meeting to discuss &#8220;the latest incidents in Occupied East Jerusalem&#8221;.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>By identical letters dated 2 October 2000 addressed to the Secretary-General and to the President of the Security Council (S\/2000\/930), the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations called for an immediate meeting of the Security Council &#8220;to consider the situation in the Occupied East Jerusalem as well as the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory&#8221;.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>By a letter dated 2 October 2000 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2000\/934), the Permanent Representative of South Africa to the United Nations, in his capacity as Chair of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement, requested that the Security Council urgently convene a meeting &#8220;to respond to the critical situation in Occupied East Jerusalem, other parts of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and parts of Israel&#8221;.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>By a letter dated 2 October 2000 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2000\/935), the Permanent Representative of Malaysia, in his capacity as Chairman of the Islamic Group at the United Nations, conveyed the Islamic Group&#8217;s request for an emergency meeting of the Security Council to consider the deteriorating situation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Security Council met to consider the item in response to the above requests at its 4204th meeting, held on 3, 4 and 5 October 2000. There were two suspensions and two resumptions of the meeting. The Security Council continued its consideration of the item at its 4205th meeting, held on 7 October 2000.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At its 4204th meeting, held on 3 October 2000, the President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Algeria, Bahrain, Cuba, Egypt, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey and Yemen, at their request, to participate in the discussion of the item without the right to vote.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>In response to the request contained in a letter dated 3 October 2000 from the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2000\/938), the President, in accordance with the rules of procedure and the previous practice in that regard, invited the Permanent Observer of Palestine to participate in the debate.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The meeting was suspended.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Upon the resumption of the meeting on 4 October 2000, the President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, Morocco, Nepal, Oman, the Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Viet Nam, at their request, to participate in the discussion of the item without the right to vote. <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>In response to the request contained in a letter dated 2 October 2000 from the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the President extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council&#8217;s provisional rules of procedure to the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Ibra Degu&#232;ne Ka.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>In response to the request contained in a letter dated 3 October 2000 from the Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations (S\/2000\/939), the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council&#8217;s provisional rules of procedure to Hussein Hassouna, Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the United Nations.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>In response to the request contained in a letter dated 3 October 2000 from the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations (S\/2000\/951), the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council&#8217;s provisional rules of procedure to Mokhtar Lamani, Permanent Observer of the Organization of the Islamic Conference to the United Nations.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The meeting was suspended.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Upon the resumption of the meeting on 5 October 2000, the President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Malta and Spain, at their request, to participate in the discussion of the item without the right to vote.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>In response to the request contained in a letter dated 5 October 2000 from the Permanent Representative of Togo to the United Nations (S\/2000\/958), the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council&#8217;s provisional rules of procedure to Amadou Kebe, Permanent Observer of the Organization of African Unity to the United Nations.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Security Council continued its consideration of the item at its 4205th meeting, held on 7 October 2000, in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The President drew attention to the text of a draft resolution (S\/2000\/963), which had been submitted by Bangladesh, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mali, Namibia, Tunisia and Ukraine.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Security Council proceeded to vote on draft resolution S\/2000\/963 and adopted it by 14 votes in favour, none against and one abstention (United States of America) as resolution 1322 (2000) (for the text, see S\/RES\/1322 (2000);
