Highlights:

  • Humanitarian and commercial cargo flows increased slightly in May, easing some market access constraints and supporting limited reliance on markets. However, food insecurity remained severe, with high and volatile prices and continued challenges in accessing adequate and diverse food, underscoring the need for sustained cargo inflows into Gaza.
  • At the same time, the closure of Zikim crossing on 24 May left Kerem Shalom as the only cargo entry point, while ongoing restrictions and supply chain constraints continued to limit the availability of essential goods.
  • On 14 May, WFP was targeted by a cyber-attack on its Palestine self-registration application (SRA); the platform was immediately shut down, the intrusion contained, and security measures strengthened. Assistance delivery to existing beneficiaries continued uninterrupted. No other WFP systems were affected.

Situation Update:

  • Regional tensions remained high throughout May. Disruptions to maritime shipping routes continued to increase transport and fuel costs, placing additional pressure on supply chains and humanitarian operations.
  • In Gaza, military operations, airstrikes, and displacement continued throughout May. Humanitarian operations remained constrained and frequently disrupted by insecurity, movement restrictions, access.
  • A lack of functioning armored vehicles, spare parts, and lubricants severely constrained WFP activities in Gaza and is threatening WFP¡¯s ability to move safely and collect cargo from crossing points.
  • In the West Bank, the situation remained tense, particularly in the northern governorates. Military operations, movement restrictions, demolitions, settler related violence, and displacement continued to affect Palestinian communities and humanitarian access.
