Each United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session opens with High-Level Week, bringing together Heads of State, Heads of Government and representatives of Member States for the General Debate, high-level meetings and other special events at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The General Debate gives Member States a platform to set out national priorities, address global challenges and help shape the Assembly's work for the year ahead.
This year, UNGA 81 opened on 8 September 2026 under the theme "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All", with the General Debate beginning on 22 September.
