The President of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Khalilur Rahman, met with H.E. Mr. Feleti Penitala Teo, Prime Minister of Tuvalu. The leaders discussed opportunities for greater General Assembly action on climate, biodiversity loss and pollution, as well as ways to leverage the “triple COP” in 2026.

They discussed the “Pre-COP” sessions taking place in the Pacific and expressed a shared desire for a strong outcome document to take to the COP31 in Türkiye on behalf of small island developing States.

The President of the General Assembly’s vision statement calls for realizing island, climate and environmental resilience as cross-cutting issues in UN processes and deliberation.
