The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Khalilur Rahman, met with H.E. Mr. Shisir Khanal, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of recent floods, landslides and avalanches that have caused devastation across Nepal. They discussed growing impacts of the climate crisis and the urgent need for collective action by Member States.
They agreed that the General Assembly has a key role to play in highlighting the interconnected impacts of climate change and how advanced early warning systems that leverage digital technologies could strengthen preparedness and resilience.
They also exchanged views on where Member States can make tangible progress on UN reform during the eighty-first session of the General Assembly.
