The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Khalilur Rahman, met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar, Ms. Julie Isabel Bishop.
The President of the General Assembly and the Special Envoy exchanged views on developments in Myanmar, including the humanitarian situation and regional efforts. They also addressed the situation of the Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
They underscored the importance of continued attention and support from the international community, including for the refugee-hosting countries, and of addressing the root causes of the crisis to enable the return of the Rohingya. The meeting also covered the High-level Side Event on the Rohingya Crisis to be held on 23 September 2026.
