The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Khalilur Rahman, met with H.E. Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Hasan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
The President and the Foreign Minister exchanged views on this year’s General Debate. They also discussed the Rohingya refugee crisis, stressing the importance of engagement with Myanmar through ASEAN and bilateral channels to enable the safe, voluntary and dignified return of the Rohingya. They expressed hope that the outcome of the proceedings before the International Court of Justice would contribute to a durable solution and acknowledged the challenges faced by refugee-hosting countries.
They also exchanged views on the crises in the Middle East and their wider implications, underscoring the importance of sustained diplomatic efforts towards peaceful and lasting solutions. The President thanked Malaysia for its continued partnership with the United Nations.
