The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Khalilur Rahman, met with H.E. Dr. Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration.
The President of the General Assembly and Commissioner Brunner discussed irregular migration, migrant smuggling and trafficking in persons, including the need to strengthen international cooperation, address root causes and combat criminal networks while protecting the lives and dignity of migrants.
They exchanged views on cooperation among countries of origin, transit and destination, including efforts to expand safe and regular migration pathways and create greater economic opportunities for young people in countries of origin. They also discussed strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union in addressing migration challenges.
