Climate, Peace and Security in Eastern Chad: Understanding Risks, Strengthening Resilience and Building Lasting Peace

Climate, Peace and Security in Eastern Chad: Understanding Risks, Strengthening Resilience and Building Lasting Peace
UNOCA / UNOCA

The United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) has published the report covering the provinces of Ouadda?, Sila, Wadi Fira and Ennedi East.

The assessment examines the interconnections between climate change, environmental degradation, population displacement and tensions over access to natural resources. It highlights that climate change acts as a risk multiplier for peace and security, particularly when combined with poverty, socioeconomic vulnerabilities and governance challenges.

The report also highlights community resilience and provides recommendations to strengthen conflict prevention, inclusive natural-resource management, climate adaptation and social cohesion, with particular attention to women, youth, refugees and host communities.

Conducted in collaboration with UNDP Chad and with the support of the United Nations Climate Security Mechanism, and made possible through financial support from France, the assessment contributes to the implementation of UNOCA’s Climate, Peace and Security Strategy and broader efforts to advance conflict prevention and sustainable peace in Central Africa.
