The South Sudan 2025 Annual Report sets out theresults, challenges, and lessons learned of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) across key governance, sustainable livelihoods, economic stability, social cohesion, health systems, and climate resilience. It identifies adaptability and innovation as central to this work and offers grounds for cautious optimism about the country’s path towards sustainable development, reflecting a shared commitment “to building a brighter, more prosperous South Sudan.”
Particularly noteworthy is the report’s cross-cutting focus on “Climate, Conflict and Community: Building Climate-Smart Peace.” Rather than addressing climate as a stand-alone issue, the report illustrates how in South Sudan, climate considerations areembedded across humanitarian, development and peace efforts. This includes integrating climate, peace and security considerations into operations and programmes, and drawing on combined climate, conflict, and social data to inform conflict-sensitive, climate-informed responses that help “manage climate risks before they become security crises.”
