UNGA 81 Caribbean coverage

The General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly took place during High-level Week, from 22 to 28 September 2026, at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Held under the theme ¡°Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All¡±, the debate reflected a call for renewed confidence in multilateral cooperation, effective responses to global change and concrete results for the people the United Nations serves.

All 14 CARICOM countries that are Member States of the United Nations addressed the General Assembly during the six-day debate. The Caribbean was represented by three Heads of State, seven Heads of Government, one Deputy Prime Minister, one Foreign Minister and two Permanent Representatives to the United Nations.

Notably, women delivered six of the region¡¯s 14 addresses, accounting for nearly 43 per cent of CARICOM speakers and marking a record for women¡¯s representation in the region¡¯s participation in the General Debate.

Across their statements, Caribbean representatives brought regional perspectives to some of the world¡¯s most pressing challenges, including climate change and sea-level rise, development financing, debt and vulnerability, reparatory justice, artificial intelligence, transnational organised crime, security in Haiti and reform of the multilateral system. Their interventions also underscored the importance of international law, sovereign equality and ensuring that the realities of small and vulnerable States are reflected in global decision-making.

This page brings together video recordings and text transcripts of the addresses delivered by the 14 CARICOM countries, providing an archive of the region¡¯s participation in the General Debate of the 81st Session.
